HistoricAZ66: No Trespassing Traditional Cache

The ruins to the east, which sit along the abandoned 1937 Route 66 alignment, are the remains of Meteor Crater Observatory. Prior to the opening of the Meteor Crater Visitor Center tourists viewed the crater from the tower. By the late 1920's the property, known as Meteor Station, boasted a cafe and gas station. The tower and museum building were constructed in the late 1930's. Meteor Station along with the observatory were abandoned when Route 66 was re-aligned in 1949

This cache is part of the Historic Route 66 Geocaching Project, a series created by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona and designated as an official Arizona Centennial Legacy Project by the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission.
