Mindestenen ved grusvejen fortæller om en dramatisk begivenhed, der fandt sted den 4. maj 1945.
Ved 4-tiden om eftermiddagen grundstødte en kæmpemæssig flydedok ud for Påø strand. Ombord var 1500 russiske og franske krigsfanger og deres tyske vagter. De russiske fanger kom til Rudkøbing medens franskmændene blev indkvarteret på Skovsgaard. De menige fanger fik ophold i tæskeladen, og officererne blev indkvarteret i hovedbygningen. I kælderen blev der indrettet sygestue. Den 5. maj vajede Trikoloren sammen med Dannebrog på Skovsgaard flagstang.

The memorial stone at the gravel road tells of a dramatic event that took place on the fourth of May 1945. At 4 PM a giant floating dock ran aground next to Påø beach. On board were 1500 Russian and French POWs and their German guards. The Russian prisoners came to Rudkøbing while the French were quartered at Skovsgaard. All private prisoners were staying in the barn, and the officers were quartered in the main building. An infirmary was established in the basement. On the fifth of May the French Tricolour waved together with the Danish national flag on the flagpoles at Skovsgaard.
