Magnetic, cammoed Altoid tin.
Our friend, Teddy, lived here in the summers, where the Encinoso picnic site is now located, circa 1942-1965, with her mother, father, three sisters and various animals. Their five room house was located where the parking area is now.
The animal population included 1-3 horses, one cow, a pet chicken (Oscar), rabbits, turkeys and many chickens which were purchased 100 at a time from Anderson's Feed Store in Flagstaff.
The orchards included cherry trees, pear trees, apple trees, peach trees, and one crab apple tree. What Teddy's family could not consume or sell roadside was sent to various markets in Flagstaff. Some other crops included strawberries, blackberries, and boysenberries.
Teddy's father pumped water from Oak Creek for irrigation purposes into a large tank on the hill to provide gravity flow when needed.
This 3-4 acre bit of land provided a different way of life for the kids, supplemented their regular urban income and generally enhanced their lives and lives of family friends.
Their lease was broken in 1965.
