Geocache Description:

Please thank the library staff if you have a minute while caching. This cache would not be a reality without their help! :) Please be sure to READ through before proceeding.

The first stage (coordinates given above) will take you to Kokomo, Indiana’s twenty-third historical Carnegie Library building (located at 220 N Union Street) which was originally constructed in 1902. The coordinates for the second leg of this cache can be found on the plaques located in the main library (in the airlock).  The N coordinates for the second stage can be calculated by utilizing a number corresponding to a special gift from Andrew Carnegie. The W coordinates for the second stage can be calculated utilizing a number corresponding to the renovated information from the main library. The second and third stages are both close to one another and would be a good place to park your "cachemobile".

The second stage (an actual micro). Please use Caution when locating, retrieving, and replacing this stage ~~ Very public & high geomuggle traffic area, but mostly harmless.
This stage requires some deciphering process to locate its coordinates.

[Given these: N – 40°22.171 and W – 086°02.194]

You MUST multiply the two Dates Found (in the first stage) by two, then ADD these two products to the given coordinates above.
 This will give you the coordinates for stage two. The first date cooresponds with the NORTH coordinates and the second date cooresponds with the WEST coordinates!!!!

EXAMPLE ONLY: Year 2012 x 2 = 4024 plus 40*22.171 == > 40*26.195
or -- Year 2009 x 2 = 4018 plus 86*02.194 == > 086*06.212
THIS IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE!!
[You will not be able to access the final cache without visiting stage one and two!]

Don't forget to only visit during open hours

The Library hours are:
Monday - Thursday: 9:00 am to 8:00 pm

Friday & Saturday: 9:00 am to 5:30 pm
Sunday: closed
***You will not be able to access and find the cache outside of these hours***

You do not need a library card. The final regular cache is in an unusual container in a child-friendly place with free, Internet-connected computers available to the public upon request.  There is also free wifi available while you are in the library, so be sure to take advantage of that as well. Be sure to explore the many attributes the library has to offer.  The library has a very nice, knowledgeable staff that is more than willing to answer any questions you  may have about the library and anything in it.

Andrew Carnegie, born 1835 in Dunfermline, Scotland, was perhaps the first wealthy person to state publicly that the rich have a moral obligation to give away their fortunes. As a philanthropist, one of Carnegie's lifelong interests was the establishment of free public libraries to make available to everyone a means of self-education. There were only a few public libraries in the world when, in 1881, Carnegie began to promote his idea. He subsequently spent over $56 million to build 2,509 libraries throughout the English-speaking world. During his lifetime, Carnegie gave away over $350 million. He died August 11, 1919.
