I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.
Douglas Adams
In my haste to get this sudoku variant built, play-tested and submitted by the WSGA puzzle deadline, I not only misspelled DEADLINE, I neglected to draw the numbers. Luckily, the puzzle is solvable with these rules:
-
Each number is used once within a row or column.
-
Each colored region (denoted by a thick line) contains the numbers 1 through 9.
-
A white dot means the difference between the adjacent numbers is 1.
-
A black dot means one cell is twice its adjacent.
-
The mathematically astute will notice that the dot between one and two could be either color. Because this isn't intended to be Opening Shots difficult, these are denoted by a half-coloured dot. (You're welcome!)
-
The absence of dots is very important.
For example, if you had a 4x4 matrix with this:

with the numbers 1 through 4, the only solution could be:

After solving the puzzle below, please use the values computed for the letters to find the cache at
N 47 3D.AED W 122 1L.INE
Once solved please add .010 to both N and W to get the final coords.

This is one of 54 puzzle caches spelling out "WSGA" in honor of the 10th anniversary of Washington State Geocaching Association.
Cache is now a bison tube about eye level in a tree just off the trail. Spoiler photo below.
