This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

The Morrisville Drive-In began construction in 1953. It stayed in operation until at least 1982. It had one screen and could hold 250 cars. The front half of the property now holds a strip mall and a burger joint. The main entrance into the shopping center is where the screen once stood. How many people entering and exiting this strip mall every day know this? The back half of the property (the field and treeline) remains very much as it has for the past sixty years. Do the people ordering their food at the Booger Queen, realize that they've just entered through the driveway of a once very different kind of drive-in? One can still imagine the cars parked in the field, facing toward West Trenton Avenue, waiting for the movie to begin as the sun went down.

When placing this cache, I was amused to see an employee of the strip mall, enjoying his lunch break in a folding chair beside his car. I asked him if it was a good movie playing. He was confused until I told him that this was the site of the old Morrisvile Drive-In and that he was facing where the screen once stood. He laughed and said, "Really? No wonder I was compelled to sit here!" He said he remembered going to drive-ins as a kid and wished they'd bring them back. Me too... me too...

Come check out a piece of cinema history long forgotten. Some stealth may be required from the strip mall workers going in and out the back of the shops. I did not find any ticks on me after visiting, but those wary of tall grass should come prepared. If you know any more information about this drive-in or have any stories of past visits, please share them!

Congratulations to BOBCAT JACK on his first FTF!
