Geocache Description:

Gonzales Town tract of 4 square leagues of land dedicated for public use. This plaza is called Texas Heroes Square in honor of all Gonzales men who fought in The Texas Revolution. The statue erected in the center of this square is of Andrew Ponton who was an important person in the history of the town of Gonzales, Texas.

While visiting this cache you have an opportunity to learn much of the history of Gonzales which was established to be the capital of a new colony of 400 families granted by the Mexican government to Empresario Green DeWitt.  Most of the settlers that joined his colony were German, Polish, & Czech immigrants who entered through the Gulf of Mexico port settlement of Indianola.

The cache contains only a log; so bring your own pen.
