Geocache Description:


Nantawarra General Store was first opened in this spot in a tin shed in 1921 when two bachelors transported goods from Bowans,it was pretty basic with the potatoes just a pile in the corner.At the end of 1921, Elliot Bros of Prospect built a store for Albert(bert)Greenshields (he did the sign writting himself),this store opened on the 15th June 1922.At this time there was only the Town Hall and Methodist Church at the reserve.
The Railway came through in 1923 and with it passing gangs and extra passengers,businees was good.In 1925 Bert added a two room house to the rear of the store, this had been transported all the way from Hilltown near Clare.Bert exchanged the stores ownership with Sidney Albert Geering (who owned the General store in balaklava),SAG as the locals named him became a household name in the district to locals aand visitors alike.In 1928 Denzil Hill came from Balaklava to manage the store,when he arrived he was single butlater married a local girl Maude Sleep.
In June 1937 a robbery happened in the store when thieves broke in, in the evening stealing 18 pounds but before they left the had a feast on biscuits and soft drinks.6 weeks later the store was broken into again,no money was taken but a bicycle was stolen,the thieves were later apprehended at Morgan and the bicycle returned.
The store cahnged hand a number of more times over the years until it finally closed its doors in 1970, two years after the school.
