Selvík can be translated as the "Bay of seals" or "Sealbay". No seals were discovered as the cache was hidden but the naming must have a reason although a verity of birds were seen during the visit. There is a small harbor in Selvík and a few local farmers still use it when they fish for Lump-fish and Cod etc. The cache is hidden at the small Selvík harbor.
The scenery in Selvík is spectacular. The cliffs that surround the bay make and other geological formations make a spectacular surroundings and make the place wort visiting.
Selvík also is interesting from a historical point. Kolbeinn Ungi Arnórsson headed of from Selvík in 1244 and was defeated by Þórður Kakali in the first and only naval battle in the history of Iceland.
The best way to get to Selvík is to turn east from road 745 into road 7450 and turn south after about 850 m. when crossing road 7454. Road 7454 will get you all the way to Selvík. The last few kilometers are rather beaten road and geocachers may have to open and close some gates on the way. Make sure to close the gates to prevent sheep and other livestock to escape.
The cache is a plastic container holding a pencil and logbook. The location of the cache should be fairly obvious once you are there.
