Geocache Description:

Cache # 52.

The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail is a wonderful cycling trail between Wangaratta and Bright, with a side track running from Everton Station to Beechworth. The trail is suitable for road bikes.

These are essentially caches placed for cyclists using the trail but there is easy parking for cars near most GZs.

For this one I would suggest parking at Tobacco Kiln Park near the Swing Bridge and walking along the path by the creek.

This cache is placed near the Barwidgee Creek and I happened upon this spectacular spot whilst riding across the old wooden bridge that is part of the Rail Trail.

I was surprised to see the wide expanse beyond the bridge where the creek has caused much erosion and indeed one of the bridge parapets has tumbled into the water and large amounts of rock have been dumped to try to stabilise the banks.  There are many old pylons stretching across a wide expanse where an old bridge must have once stood.  The Barwidgee Creek is generally a very sedate stream but can obviously become a raging torrent before it merges near the Swing Bridge with the Happy Valley Creek to become the Ovens River.

I hope you enjoy the views.

Please bring your own PEN.

CONGRATULATIONS - FTF - Harrowang
