Geocache Description:

This is cache highlights a historic place in Washington, Missouri.

The Washington Farmer's Market is the oldest remaining structure on Main Street. It was built by the Bleckman family in 1856 to house their furniture and undertaking business. Across the street is St. Francis Borgia Church. In 1833, twelve Catholic families arrived in Washington from Germany. The first Catholic Church was built near the present day St. Francis Borgia Cemetary and soon became too small. A new church was built in 1846 just west of the present church site on Main Street. The current building dates from 1869. Looking north toward the Missouri River, you will see Marquart's Landing. Originally the building was built by CH Kahmann as a tavern and hotel to accomodate passengers on the new Pacific Railroad. It continues to be a tavern.

Congratulations to eravau for the FTF
