Geocache Description:

Join TT and I on our latest series near and into the village of Leafield in Oxfordshire in celebration of our countries capital hosting of the Olympics and our county ‘capital’ the Geolympix Mega Event in Summer 2012.  More of a triangle and a loop but then we thought LOL sounded better – for the non texters, it means Lots Of Laughs!  Maybe not laughs but we hope you enjoy the Leafield Olympic Loop!

Series Description:

To acknowledge the Olympics and Geolympix in summer 2012, a series of caches each named after an Olympic ‘sport’, some of which may relate to the sport.  The sports are decided, grouped and named by the International Olympics Committee where a ‘sport’ refers to all the events that are sanctioned by one International Sport Federation, a definition that may be different from the common meaning of the word ‘sport’. One sport, by Olympic definition, may be divided into several disciplines, which are often regarded as separate sports in common language.

Series Info:
A series of fifteen traditional and a couple of small multi caches in a walk approximately five and a half miles long and which should take about three hours to complete at a steady pace. There are seventeen caches in this series in total, varying from nano to medium plastic container – and everything in between!  No two are the same.  The series starts from and returns to the parking anywhere in Lower End, Leafield. Please bring a writing implement and a pair of tweezers!

The series is almost entirely flat and uses fairly well marked Bridleways, Public Footpaths and pavements - one of which is the old Roman road ‘Akeman Street’.  This was a major Roman road that linked Watling Street with the Fosse Way.  You will also find you cross RAF Akeman Street, a Second World War station that held 2 Special Flying Training School, a backup to Brize Norton.

Should be okay for dog cachers but there are a couple of styles you will have to carry your pet over and for that reason I’m afraid isn’t buggy or disability friendly. It is a great family walk out for little cachers too, no farm animals but does get rather muddy in places and you have to push your way through the vegetation at points!

The route takes you into the village and there are a couple of bits by the road but there are footpaths at most points or it is extremely quite country roads - please take care but it is safe.

This Cache:

With 15 events at the current Olympics it has also been contested at all but two modern Summer Olympics since the first in 1896.  This used to use live targets of pigeons and deer but this was stopped in 1932.  In the overall medal tables for shooting the USA are ahead again with 103.  Great Britain is sixth with 43 out of 58 countries that have won one of the 729 issued medals in shooting.

This is the fourth of the series and the target for this is a small, camouflaged pill bottle with log and pencil.

After this cache continue to follow the same path south east though the thinning woodland.
