Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to our brave and courageous daughter Reagan, who is an avid Girl Scout and wilderness adventurer.

Reagan's hero's are Les Stroud and Bear Grylls and her life's ambition is to catch and cook one of our backyard squirrels with a Paiute Deadfall.   This week was her first adventure truely away from home (alone) at Girl Scout Camp Menzies and although she was terribly scared, she repeated, "courageous and strong - courageous and strong" (Girl Scout Value #3) over and over and went anyway.  We dedicate this cache to all those pint-size adventurers who courageously confront the challenges of life, conquering  the fear of the unknown.

FTF:  2012 is the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts and there is a commemorative patch in the cache for the FTF along with some of Reagan's favorite collectables, pencil erasers.

This cache is located just off of the Red Peak Trail.  The most common entrance to this location is at the Van Vleck Trail Head.  This cache is located just a few yards outside of Desolation Wilderness.  The trail has a few hundred feet of elevation gain to the cache and is approximately three miles from the trail head.  During the mid to late summer wildflowers are quite abundant.  This is a great trail but the best parts are after the cache.  Once you enter Desolation you will find some great camping and backpacking areas.  Of course with Desolaton comes elevation.  To the tune of about 8200 feet if you make it up to the lakes.  Lakes #3, #5 and Lawrence are all ahead of you.  Even a cool but mysterious Air Force airplane crash near Lake #5 (if you have any information about this we would love to learn about it).  Lake #3 has the best camping and the fishing is great fun too.  Speaking of fishing, this trail mostly follows up to the head waters of Bassi Creek.  There are tons of small fishing holes to explore along the way.  From trail head to Lake #3 is about seven miles.  With about 1300 feet of elevation gained.  Mostly in the last two miles.  We know this cache will be found maybe once or twice a year if that.  But we assure you that when you locate this cache they will be glad they did.  Post as many pics as you can as there are so many things to see.

As the Red Peak Trail is seldom used with the exception of a few hikers and some horse riders, the trail has many downed trees that would make it a challenge for anyone riding a mountain bike.  Not impossible, but slowed down for sure.  Additionally, there are about a dozen or so stream crossings, mostly crossed with ease.  But a few require a balanced step to make the other side.  Also depending on the time you go, bring plenty of bug repellant

Now c'mon!  Go forward with Reagan's Courage and find this cache!!
