Geocache Description:

Just South of 60 is a series of caches placed along the multiple boarders into the Yukon from BC.  There are a number of times where the highway snakes north and south of 60 when you first enter the Yukon and head towards Watson Lake.  This cache is located on Highway 7 on the way to Atlin BC.

Atlin is a small isolated community in the NW corner of British Columbia, on the traditional lands of the Taku River Tlingits. Glacial-fed Atlin Lake is 4 miles wide and 85 miles long, in a wide wilderness valley surrounded by snowcapped mountains. Atlin is a 2 to 3 hour drive from Whitehorse Yukon or Skagway Alaska.  You need to take highway 7 which is 2km down the Taggish Road from Jakes Corner on the Alaska Highway.  Highway 7 is a very scenic 1 hour drive to Atlin - tons of oouus and aahhs and picture opportunities along this drive.  Keep your camera ready as you are bound to see wildlife.  At the time we placed this cache we saw a mum grizzly with two cubs very near by.  Current population is 300 to 500 full-time residents. During the Klondyke Gold Rush of 1898, the population was 10,000! Many buildings from that era still exist. Though Mining and Tourism underpin the economy of Atlin, there is a large and very influential number of artists, artisans and authors in this very special little-known community.

The Welcome to BC sign is actually located north of 60 so you will need to find a safe pull out and walk south a short distance to the cache location.  At the time the cache was placed (July 2, 2012) there were road works in the area.  The cache is a red buffalo tube.  You will need to bring a pen/pencil to sign the log.  Please be careful when untwisting the cap as it is held by some dental floss and will not hold up to being yanked.  If someone else has stronger twine to replace what I've used to fix it to the post then by all means reinforce the floss - I had to use what I could get my hands on!
