in our disclaimer.
The cache is a very small container just large enough for a rolled-up log. Bring your own writing utensil!
***PLEASE NOTE*** If you zoom in and look at the map picture in the listing you will see that the cache is on land (the Breakwater). If your GPS device shows that it is in the water on the map, it is not my coordinates that are off, it's your device. My device shows that the cache is in the water, and also tells me that it has an accuracy of +/- 38 feet, but when I put the coordinates in the listing here at Geocaching.com, the map shows it exactly right. I hope this helps everyone. If all else fails, read the hint (both here and the encrypted one) and you'll find it right away. Our intention is for this to be easy; we just want people to enjoy the walk and maybe give some a reason to do it! It might be hard to keep this one from muggles because there are usually a lot of them around in the summer, but do your best. THE CACHE IS NOT IN THE WATER! (See additional comments above) You can get to this by walking the Breakwater. Be careful while traveling on the Breakwater, as there are large spaces between the rocks and there are places where the water has washed up over it at times. Please note in your comments if this cache needs maintenance or is missing, the log is full or wet, etc. so I can take care of any problems. Thanks! Construction on the Rockland Breakwater first began in 1881 and the lighthouse was finished and first lit in 1902. It was refurbished in 1990 by the Coast Guard. Located at Jameson Point, Rockland Harbor, in Rockland, the Breakwater serves to separate the Harbor from Penobscot Bay and the lighthouse was used to guide ships around the point when sailing into the Harbor. For those who collect lighthouse trivia: the tower is 25’ high, original optic was fourth-order Fresnel, present optic is VRB-25, focal plane height 39’. The light flashes white every five seconds, and the fog signal is once every 15 seconds. This is an active lighthouse, USCG #1-4130. The lighthouse is accessible to the public on weekends in the summer from 9-6 and is manned by volunteer members of the Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights (but the cache is accessible anytime you can access the Breakwater). Additional challenge, as posed by a fellow cacher (canoebuilder) in the logs below - "there is only one stone that goes from one side of the breakwater to the other with no seam...can you find it?" If you find it, please just say so in your log but do not reveal the location.
