This is the site where Thomas "Lord" Blythe's home once stood. This local landmark was burned down years ago by vandals. The home was built in 1890. It was said to be elegant. According to the Spokesman Review in 1951 the house was to be flooded when O'Sullivan dam was built.
Lord Blythe was a Scottish cattle rancher who came to the United States and settled along Rocky Ford Creek. He had several "firsts". He established the first herd of Hereford cattle in Washington, had the first successful irrigation system in the Columbia Basin and the first telephone line installed in Grant County. In 1900 he became Ephrata's first postmaster.
The locals called the monocle wearing Blythe eccentric. He was chauffeured around by his secretary in a Brush automobile. His "glass carriage" can still be seen at the Grant County Museum in Ephrata.
You can park at the wildlife parking area off Highway 17. A Discover Pass is required here. You are looking for a round lock and lock type container. Since this cache was placed on the Fourth of July there is an American flag geocoin for the First To Find.
