Adelaide Hills History #03 Upper Sturt
The information sign at the published co-ordinates will give you some historical information about Upper Sturt. Some interesting facts that are not on the sign:
- The Maonah estate once housed one of the largest private libraries in Australia (over 10,000 volumes). Later bequeathed to the State Library
- Hans Heysen was engaged to decorate the ceilings within Manoah
Extract numbers A, B, C and D from the sign. The 'Manoah' photo bottom centre, the date the photo was taken 19AB. The timber church was built in 18CD.

GZ will take you near the historical Upper Sturt General Store which was established in 1880. Some weekends you'll find the Tardis Trio in there having some of the best chips in the Adelaide Hills (according to Mr Tardis and Mini Tardis). Below is a photo of the homestead circa 1910 which was later joined to the newly built store in the 1950's.
