Fairy Ring (read guidelines before searching) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ohjoy!: Another cache which I won't be able to check on due to a recent knee injury. Rather than have a reviewer put a notice on the cache page, I'll just archive it. I will check on it in case it's still there to be picked up once I'm able to walk that far again.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a portion of the Mima Mounds. When you stand at the cache site, you may be able to see a "fairy ring" of lichen surrounding a tree beyond the cache site. Most of the time they will look completely grey-white. LOOK ONLY; don't walk in there; fairies don't like to be disturbed.

This is the last of the initial six caches (5 traditionals and 1 earthcache) I placed in the West Rocky Prairie area of the Mima Mounds with permission from the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Please contact me and I will work with you for the placement. Here are the regulations for visiting this very fragile area:
1. Stay on roadways. (The caches I have placed in the area may be a few feet off the roadway; however, each cache location has been approved by a staff person.)
2. Foot traffic only. No bikes, horses or motor vehicles. Strollers would be acceptable.
3. Dogs must be on a short leash and kept on the roadways at all times. It might be easier to leave them home.

Following these regulations will preserve the natural environment while still allowing the public to enjoy it. Even one single short walk off the roadways will cause soil compaction. Compaction prevents the natural plant life from growing and allows hardier, invasive species to take their place.

Let's keep this area open for all to enjoy now and in the future by honoring these requests.

Note: the Fish and Wildlife staff were so happy with the hides in the area that they improved the home for this one after I showed it to them. On my next visit, I discovered that it's no longer just under a rock - they gave it a special little home of its own.

Don't forget your Discover Pass.
