Geocache Description:

Dedicated to Shani36
A very interesting Earthcache, unique, no other like it in the UK.

Best to park on the High Street at given coordinates, there is a gap between the houses No 16 & 18 and a footpath which takes you up to the dragons resting place.
This area has been mined and quaried for the past hundred plus years for the local ironstone, producing an ore with 20-25% iron oxide within a matrix of silicate, sandstone and fossilized shells the most common being Devils Toenails ( Gryphaea), Ammonites and Belemnoidea. This type of ore despite being low grade produced a high purity iron as the high calcium content acted as an excellent fluxing and cleansing agent in the blast furnaces near by. Mind you for every ton of iron produced three tons of slag had to be disposed of which produced a long after glow in the sky when the slag ladles were poured at night time, hence Scunthorpes motto "The Heavens Reflect Our Labours"
A very interesting rock formation, lots of theories and local legends regarding this earthcache.
Now for your contributions which hopefully you can achieve if you visit and comply with the following.

To qualify for this cache you will need to do some homework as unfortunately there is no information board at the site and a little walking over rough ground.

An optional photogragh in your log of you or one of your party riding the dragon.

Email me the following answers:-

What in your opinion formed the dragon, fact as well as fiction?

What mineral is it made from?

Who was the curator of Scunthorpe Museum in the 1930's

What are the coordinates at the nose and tail of the dragon? http://img.geocaching.com/cache/thumb/453f5e01-6185-4e69-b615-1e7b2ac37d61.jpg
