Geocache Description:

You are looking for a micro container, log only, so bring your own writing stick. Be stealthy, there are lots of muggles around :)

This cache is in memory of  John R. Hollis. Born 7-10-1913 on a farm between Hydro & Bridgeport, OK - graduated from Hinton HS in 1929 - obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from OSU in 1933 - bought the Hinton Telephone CO in 1939 from Mrs. Frank Huskill - taught electronics in the Navy Radar School in World War II - in 1956 he obtained a loan to change out single wire lines to more modern two wire configuration - bought Lookeba Tele. CO in 1957, Bridgeport in 1958, Eakly & Colony in 1960 and upgraded all to one party service by the early 1970's- bought Hydro in 1983 and upgraded it also.

John always guided and managed Hinton Telephone CO to give good service, be helpful to the community, and to be a successful business.  His exact words were " Take care of the subscribers first, take care of the employees next, and then take care of the company profits".

John died on May 9, 2001.  He was a very kind, gentle, and caring person, and we miss him very much.

John's father, Grover Hollis wrote a letter to him on his 21st birthday. It is dated July 10, 1934 and outlines 10 things that would that would help him in the coming years to make the world a better place and to help him be successful.  If you would like a copy of this letter,  The Hinton Museum has a copy of it and would be happy to share it with you - it is very practical even in this day and age. The museum is located at 801 S Broadway, the hours are Mon-Sat 10-4.  There is an admission charge of 3.00 but it is a great place to visit - has the largest buggy and barbed wire collection in Oklahoma. You will be glad you visited it!
