Jonker Afrikaner built the northern Bay Road (= Bai-Weg) from Windhoek to Walvis Bay 1843 to 1844. So transport from the coast to Windhoek became much easier. At this place you´ll find the ruins of a former tollgate and the graves of poor Robert Kirchgatter and Ferdinand Zarp, soldiers of the old German 'Schutztruppe'.
As there are stones everywhere, have a look at the spoiler picture. A permit for this area is required. You´ll get it at any NWR Office (e.g. Windhoek or Swakopmund). As per July 2012 the permit costs 10 ND for Namibians, 40 ND for foreigners and 10 ND for a car.
