WSQ Milwaukee County Asylum Cemetery Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pawn-of-Chaos: At first, I thought people weren't looking in the right place. It's nowhere near a fence. The coordinates had recently been updated. I figured they were looking at the old coordinates yet, BUT... I decided to check the new location and it's gone altogether. What a shame. I liked this location, but I'm not going to keep replacing containers.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located within the remnants of the Milwaukee County Asylum Cemetery.

The ground before you contains the mortal remains of approximately 200 souls who died at the Milwaukee County Asylum / Hospital for the Insane. These burial grounds were open from March 1880 – November 1914. Patients without financial means or family to claim them found a place of eternal peace here.

Using the Posted Parking coordinates is easiest, however, alternate approaches include: (1) Park by the Milwaukee County Parks Administration building and walk across the open field or (2) Park in Hansen or Hoyt Parks and bike/walk down Swan Blvd then follow the trail east on the south side of the detention basin.
