This cache will bring you on a looped walk up the Kilmacoliver Hill. It is a 6km marked trail which will bring you through fields and woods and at the top an ancient megalithic tomb which consists of a number of stones roughly arranged in circles.
Going up the trail, you will pass an old house, which is the last remainings of the village of Bregaun. The Burial Ground or the Stone Circle as the megalithic tomb at the top is called, is believed to be 5000 year old structure relating to the Winter Solstice. On the opposite side of the valley you should be able to see Slievenamon, the highest mountain in South Tipperary. On the way down you will pass through several younger forests with different kind of trees.
The Hollywood actor George Clooney's ancestors originally came from the nearby village of Tullaghought. Some of them left for Kentucky some 150 years ago and it is from them he origin. If you happen to visit the local pub, you will find a picture of the actore hanging over the bar.
Some remarks about the walk. Good boots and raingear is essential, it can be quite muddy, and you have to walk through hay fields, and of course it is Ireland, so don't be fooled by sunshine. I had one with me who only were shoes, and he had to take them of in order not to ruin them. Also there is some latters that has to be climbed in other to get over the fences and some steep sloaps. There can be livestock on the field, so don't go with someone who are affraid of cows, and though I will not garanty it, there were no electrity in the fences I tried. The walk is not that hard, and can be done in a moderate tempo in 1.5-2 hours.
Do remember that most of this trail is on private land and you will pass some important and unic places, so try to live up to the Leave No Trace policy.
