Geocache Description:

This is another of 21 caches to be published each day of the last days of the Mayan long count calendar, leading to the beginning of a new era.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. Seriously. No doubt there are many interesting things in the water there, but this cache should not be among them. The actual coordinates for the cache can be determined from the story below, in which the names of the demons have not been changed but the story itself is completely fictional. Probably.

Hun-Came sat upon a throne, watching the proceedings in the ballcourt below. Though it was, as always, satisfying seeing the flesh of the heroes of the Popul Vuh stripped away by the deadly bladed ball they were forced to play with, the death god seemed preoccupied. Periodically Hun-Came would sniff the air, as if seeking an elusive scent. Vucub-Came, sitting at Hun-Came's right hand, seemed not to notice Hun-Came's behavior, his attention apparently focused on the game below. Finally Hun-Came pointed a necrotic finger at a point across the stadium.

"Chamiabac," he said, his voice the whisper of graves, yet from across the stadium the demon immediately raised its gaze to look at Hun-Came.

"Yes, lord?" the demon replied.

"The people grow complacent. Their sacrifices are given half-heartedly, if at all. It is time they were reminded of the power of Xibalba. Go, take your mate, and turn their own dead against them."

Hun-Came turned his gaze to another part of the stadium. "Patan," he spoke, then without waiting for the demon to acknowledge him, continued. "Terrorize the travelers. Let them choke on their own blood."

Again his gaze shifted. "Ahaltocob. Hide in their unswept areas and stab them."

Xic's wheedling voice interrupted Hun-Came. "Shall I accompany my mate, lord?"

Hun-Came stared at the demon who had interrupted him, his expression cold, before replying. "Of course." His gaze shifted to another of the demons. "Cuchumaquic. Take your mate, sicken the blood of the people." Hun-Came paused, then turned his gaze back to one of the demon's already tasked. "Ahaltocob, your mate will accompany you, also." There was a trace of irritation in Hun-Came's voice, as if irritated at having to state the obvious. "Patan," Hun-Came started to add, but the demon anticipated him, immediately replying, "Of course, Lord."

Ahalmez, seated next to his mate, spoke up. "How long shall my mate and I kill the people in their houses?"

Ahalpuh, who had not yet been given orders, replied severely, "Until our lord commands otherwise, of course."

Hun-Came nodded at Ahalpuh's words, then added, "You and your mate Ahalgana will be busy, also, using your jaundice and pus to make the bodies of the people swell up. Do not attack the same people as Cuchumaquic, though, as we want to affect as many people as possible." Ahalpuh inclined his head in solemn acquiescence.

Ahalmez spoke up again, voice eager with anticipation. "When shall we begin, my lord?" Xic nodded, equally eager to hear the answer to the question.

"Immediately," Hun-Came replied. "Go!" The demons disappeared in puffs of smoke, and Hun-Came turned his attention back to the ballcourt below.

"Will it work?" Vucub-Came asked from next to the demon lord.

"It had better," Hun-Came replied, a trace of uncertainty in his voice.

Remember to write down the Maya number symbols found in the log book, or on the lid, that is needed to determine the coordinates of the final cache of this series. After conversion, ten are labeled N and are each a four-digit number. Ten are labeled W and are each a three-digit number. The final cache of this series, A New Era, provides the final numbers and instructions how to add to the prior twenty to determine its coordinates.
