Geocache Description:

Accurate to 7 meters

It is a moderate hike from the Coverts Farms parking lot to the cache.  The cache is not on private property but the access waypoint is.  Please stop by the market stand to ask permission to access the trail head.

Rattlesnake Lake is named for good reason; there are lots of snakes in the area.  Keep your eyes open while hiking.  The lake itself is usually completely dried up, this year it has been extremely wet, refilling the lake.  Many animals are drawn to the area as a water hole when it is wet.

The area you are in is the Ponderosa Pine Ecosystem.  This is where the desert scrub land blends into the higher elevation on the hillsides.  There is a mecca of different plant life to see.  Along with the Sage and Antelope Brush you will start seeing higher elevation wild flowers.  In the spring is when the Balsam Root blooms covering the hills.  Into the summer you will see Brown Eyed Susan’s, Shaggy Daisies, Yarrow, Mariposa Lilies and flowering clovers.  Please do not pick the flowers as some of their growing seasons are short.  Also some of the blooms are invasive weeds like Cinquefoil, and we do not want to help them spread.

Enjoy the hike and the nature! Remember to pack out what you pack in.
