Castello di Amorosa is Italian for "Castle of Love". Please note that this cache is ONLY AVAILABLE FROM 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 or 6 p.m. depending on the time of year. You will not be able to get in any other time. The only day the cache WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE is December 25.
This cache is near a Napa Valley tourist attraction. The original plan was to build an 8,500 square-foot building without cellars. Before construction was all over it had morphed into 121,000 square-feet of 107 rooms with 4 separate levels underground and 4 levels above. Castello di Amorosa is the only real medieval castle in the US. The research to design this authentic Tuscan-style castle took more than 15 years with almost another 12 years spent in the building process (over 10 years was spent building underground) . There is more than 8,000 tons of hand chiseled stone in the buildings, using old world materials from 5 different countries. Over the years builders were hired from 8 different countries to work on the construction. No "new technology" on this project--the master builder from Austria spent years learning the old world techniques used here. The plans kept being changed and enlarged and when some things didn't look just right they were torn down and started over. What you see is one man's obsession to build ever more and even better. There is a fee to tour the castle but there is no charge to park and look for the cache. You do not have to pay to walk around the grounds. Parking may be available right next to the cache but if that space is taken you won't have to park very far away. This may be "kid friendly" if they are old enough to be aware of cars coming and going in the parking lots and keep clear of them. This can be muggle city at times, mostly on the weekends, so be stealthy and please replace as it was hidden so as not to compromise the hide. You will probably need a TOTT to retrieve and replace this cache. Don't forget to bring your own writing instrument and please let me know when the log is almost full.
