Jaskyna Zla diera EarthCache

Zlá Diera je výnimočná práve veľmi citlivým spôsobom sprístupnenia, pri ktorom návštevník s prilbou na hlave prechádza so sprievodcom tajuplné podzemie. Jaskyňa nie je elektricky osvetlená, preto si návštevníci svietia tradičnými jaskyniarskymi karbidkami, prípadne môžu použiť vlastné svetlo.

Základná trasa trvá približne 40 minút. Je fyzicky nenáročná, vhodná aj pre malé deti (najmladší účastník mal 6 týždňov, najstarší 84 rokov). Nutná je pevná obuv a teplejší odev (v jaskyni je 7 stupňov). To si ale mozete na mieste pozicat (oni vedia co potrebujete ).

Po absolvovaní úzkej vstupnej chodby smerujúcej šikmo nadol spevnenej betónovými schodíkmi a vybavenej oporným zábradlím sa návštevníci od sprievodcu dozvedia prvé informácie. Jaskyňa síce geomorfologicky patrí do pieskovcového pohoria Bachureň,vznikla však v dolomiticko-vápencovej kryhe, ktorá sem zasahuje zo susedného pohoria Branisko. Táto prírodná pamiatka sa nachádza v piatom (najprísnejšom) stupni ochrany.

Tento podzemný krasový útvar je domovom dvanástich druhov netopierov, z ktorých najvýznamnejšími sú Podkovár malý a Netopier veľký. Tieto cicavce sa tu zdržiavajú v štádiu hibernácie – zimného spánku – od novembra do apríla, počas ktorého sa 10 – 12-krát prebúdzajú. Od mája odlietajú von do oblasti ľudských obydlí, kde sa pária. Počas roka privedú na svet väčšinou jedno mláďa.

The cave 'Zla Diera' (located near Lipovce) is the only known cave in the district of Presov. In the local dialect, it is referred to as 'Zla Dzura' and it has been is open for public since 1999.

'Zla diera' is quite unique because of its specific accessibility - visitors are provided with helmets and explore the undeground with a guide. The cave is not electricated, the visitors use traditional cave torches or use their own ones.

The basic route takes approximately 40 minutes. It is not physically challenging and thereby suitable for kids too (the youngest visitor was 6 weeks old and the oldest one was 84 years old). Solid footwear and warm clothing are a necessity though (the cave temperatures average around 7 0C). You will be able to borrow some clothing in the location itself (they know what you need).

The first information from the guide himself come after passing through a narrow entrance corridor leading downwards the concrete steps with supporting railing. The cave geomorphologically belongs to the sandstone hill system 'Bachuren', however it was created inside a dolomite-limestone floe which exceeds here from the neighbouring hill system Branisko. This natural treasure's location has the 5th (highest) degree of protection.

The karstic cave is a home of 12 bat species, out of which the best known are: The Lesser Horseshoe Bat and and the generic bat. These mammals are inhabiting the cave for their hibernation period - from November to April when they start to wake up during the day - up to 10 to 12 times a day. In May, they leave the cave and near human environment to mate. They would usually birth 1 pup.

You can visit the cave every day from the 1st of April until the 15th of November, 9am to 7pm. The entrance fee for adults is 5.5€. Detailed overview can be found here. Take into the account the time you need from the parking space to the cave (ca 20 minutes) and waiting time for the guide as the tour begins after reaching the needed amount of visitors per group. Luckily, there are enough curious tourists around (especially at the weekends). You don't necessarily need to enter the cave to be able to log, however you will still need to answer the questions below:
