Name Stinjan appear in the time of Romans when they used the land for purpose of agriculture and in that time name of village was Astinianum. After Venezia by the end of 18st. on short time enter on the functions took Napoleon and on the beginning of 19st. enter on the functions took Wien.
The Austro-Hungarian government has recognized Pula's gulf ideal for building war harbour and in that time began rapidly grow of Pula and on the around hills crop up fortifications for the protection of enemy attack. Also on the Štinjan's hills there are several fortifications which are even today well preserved. In that time, in front of Štinjan bay was built sea wall which is one of the biggest built on Mediterranean Sea.
After collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy at 1918., Štinjan and Pula enter on the function of Italy until the end of the Second world war. In that time on Štinjan coast was built airport (hydrobase) for Hydro-planes which were destroyed during the Second world war by the Federal bombs. Today Štinjan inhabitants use hydrobase for pulling out of the water and putting into the water their boats. After capitulation of the Italy, until 1947.
