Geocache Description:

On January 1, 1888 the McCoy home on Blackberry Creek was burned by a band of the Hatfield clan led by Jim Vance.

As the family fled the burning home, the attackers opened fire.

Randolph managed to escape, but two of his children were killed and his wife Sarah was severly beaten and left for dead.

After this event, the McCoy's moved to Pikeville to get away from the Hatfields.

They lived next door to Perry Cline in the last house on Main Street at the corner of Scott Avenue.

Randolph earned a living running a ferry across the Big Sandy River. Sarah died before Randolph (date unknown) and Randolph, died on March 28, 1914.

Both are buried in the Dils Cemetery along with their son Sam McCoy, their daughter Roseanna and Sam's wife Martha.
