Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES! This area was ripped up and renovated so the original hiding spot is gone. We replaced it today so coordinates may be slightly off.

The fires of 1918 started on October 10th of that year, and by the 12th, they had swept through more than 1500 square miles of northern Minnesota. 11,000 people lost their homes, and the total property loss was estimated at $73 million, including homes, barns, livestock, and 41 school buildings. It destroyed three of Hermantown’s six schools: Lincoln, McKinley, and Roosevelt. This is Cache #2 on Kaylee's fabulous geocaching voyage that is part of her Girl Scout Silver Award Project. The listed coordinates will bring you close to the site of the Lincoln School. Look out into the field behind the storage building to see where the Lincoln School was located.

To get the coordinates for the McKinley school, use this formula:
N 046 48.4AA (AA= Number of storage lockers plus 4)
W 092 BB.828 (BB= number of storage lockers minus 4)

With these coordinates you will be taken to a parking lot. Look across the street from the church to see where the McKinley School was located.

To get the coordinates for the final stage. Use this formula:
N 046 50.AA9 (AA= North/South Hwy # plus 1)
W 092 BB.808 (BB= East/West Hwy # plus 10) You can safely see the highway numbers from the corner by the church. There is no need to go out on the road!

When you arrive at the final cache site look North across the road to see the site of the former Roosevelt school.
