This statue is for the memory of 59 Polish seemen who lost theyr lifes in battle in the second world war. The Groms destroyerts where two destroyers buildt for the Polish army. They where two of the fastest and heaverly armed pre world war II destroyers. Groms sunk 4.Mai 1940 in Ofotfjorden in a battle.

Statuen er til minne om 59 polske sjømenn som mistet livet i 2. verdenskrig, 4. Mai 1940 hvor skipet sank i Ofotfjorden. Det ble bygget to Grom class destoyers, som i førkrigstiden var av de raskeste og mest tungt bevæpnede destoyere.
