Geocache Description:

Cache is hidden in a new spot in the lost town of Loomis. BUT PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PARK AT THE LIQUOR STORE THAT IS JUST 250 FEET NORTH OF THE CACHE AND WALK DOWN THE STREET. Sorry for the caps, but it is important.

Town Name: Loomis

Population: Approximatly 75

Reason For Becoming A Ghost Town: When the timber ran out and the Great Depression hit, Loomis never recovered.

Town History: Established in 1877 and named after a local lumberjack. Loomis was an important stop on the Pere Marquette Railroad. Like most towns in the area, lumber was the economy of Loomis. Up to 700 to 800 people worked in the area. Peak population was 350. At one time Loomis had a hemlock extract factory, two shingle mills, sawmill, town hall, two hotels (one of which is the local general store), jail, and a Methodist church. The town was never incorporated, but did have a justice of the peace, a dog catcher and a constable. Loomis was known as a rough town to live in. Bar fights between local lumberjacks were a common sight. When the timber ran out, the town's economy took a dive. The Great Depression of the 1920's didn't help either. Loomis would've gone the way of Herrick and Colonville if US-10 hadn't come along. Nowadays, Loomis lives out a quiet existance with a couple of stores to keep itself from disapearing.

Cache Description: Cache is a small pill container wrapped in black tape. And hide the cache as good as you can given its location, especially during the winter!

Notes of Interest: Please park at Todd's Liquor Store, because if you park off the road next to the cache, you could get in trouble. It is not a long hike and easy find. Please hide it as good as you can!
