A good-sized cache at an historic location in Chiltern Mt Pilot National Park.
This soak (or spring) is believed to be the place where the police kept their horses while keeping a watch over the Woolshed valley for the Kelly gang visiting Joe Byrne's family homestead in 1879 -1880. It's a logical place as it has semi-permanent water and is not far from the 'Police Cave' where the constables slept. For more information about these interesting historical sites and their relevance to the Kelly story see ' The Fatal Friendship - Ned Kelly, Aaron Sherritt and Joe Byrne' by Ian Jones (Lothian, 2003). The cache is a good-sized polypipe container with logbook, pencil and a few goodies. Access - 4wds or mtbs can get to within several hundred metres (see Parking waypoint..), or you can walk in from the North or South. WARNING CFA TRACK CAN BE VERY VERY BOGGY, DO NOT ENTER ANY PART YOU ARE UNSURE OF! Placed 14/7/2012 with assistance from team mvb and gypsyroselee on a bushwalk with Murray Valley Bushwalkers. Congrats for a very fast FTF to lostmonster!
