Geocache Description:

Abergavenny is often called The Gateway to Wales and is a small market town on the banks of the River Usk.

Abergavenny Bridge is a seven-arched bridge which used to be known as Tudor Bridge as it was originally built by Jasper Tuder around 1450. It is now a mix of the original construction (the arches and piers downstream) and the upstream tramroad bridge built in 1811. Then in 1868 the two bridges were combined to now carry the A4143 into (or out of) Llanfoist. If you look underneath from either side of the river you can see the different styles of the arches, and on the upstream side you will see the corbell brackets which probably supported the parapet that used to adorn the bridge.

This cache is designed to give you a closer look at an interesting construction which would normally be just driven over without a seconds thought (as I do going to and from work!) I have also set this one up at the same time as the Castle Meadows caches.

Please note that to obtain the cache you do not need to spend time on top of the bridge (ie near the traffic) or get close to the river (at normal height).

Also PLEASE be careful crossing this road because even though it's small it can be busy.

Still holding strong!

The cache is a small test-tube type container. Please only look at the clue if you need to as it will give it away (probably) and please replace as found whilst keeping an eye out for muggles of course (which could be above you, front, back or through the arch!). Also, when you re-hide, please place upside down to prevent water getting in - cheers
