When Drive-ins Ruled the Earth Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

georockers412: When I placed this cache, the auto parts store wasn't built yet. I was surprised to see the parking lot paved all the way up to the tree line with this cache practically in the lot. I'm archiving this cache as such and perhaps some one will place another here someday. This is my family's favorite drive-in for summer movies. There were two TBs listed in the cache, but they were not in the container when I removed it from the tree.

Geocache Description:

Quick park and grab located off of Route 60. Cache is located outside of drive-in, no need to go inside or trespass. Be advised that you should look for the cache while the drive-in is closed during the day or in the off-season (Labor Day to Memorial Day). Please beware of poison ivy near cache in summer months. The theater opens one hour before dusk for movie-goers and is usually very crowded.

In 1958, the drive-in theater industry was at its peak with over 4000 theaters placed around the country. Today there are only about 365 drive-ins, open and operating, nationwide. This is a lost form of family entertainment that should be rediscovered for a new generation of movie lovers.

As this is a family cache, my children have packed a first-to-find prize for a girl and a first-to-find prize for a boy. Additionally, they have loaded the cache with many toys. The cache container is a camouflaged one-quart container which is large enough for most trackables and coins.

This cache is the ending point for the trackable "VW Drive-in Baby" (TB4WXAY) which is now travelling in the Southwest, looking for drive-in theaters.

FTF congrats to Rooster 6!
