Outward Bound: McKenzie 569 (Rotorua) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

fanfan-77: Wow, my cache furthest away from muggles, yet the first one to disappear! The pseudo-track I found when hiding the cache remains pretty much unchanged and undamaged, but GZ is totally trashed. Nowhere else to hide around here! One of you finders could have told me it was becoming exposed: I would have come to remove the container. What a waste of an ammo can...
You have plenty of other caches around this area nowadays, so I won't replace this one. This place is cool to visit, but not at that cost.
Lesson learned from me!

Geocache Description:

This cache was hidden to celebrate my recent attendance to an Outward Bound course, and in honour of my “watch”: all the wonderful people of McKenzie 569. I had the chance to introduce them to geocaching during our course. In the spirit of Outward Bound, this cache is going to be a challenge to find. Please read on to decide if you can attempt it or not.

There are Outward Bound schools in 42 countries, and courses for everyone. The challenges are numerous: physical, social, emotional. They force participants to explore their leardership possibilities and are also an opportunity to learn new skills. This experience has changed me and my watchmates.

This geocache is an ammo can hidden around the base of a rock. You will have to find your own way to get to it, and some of the way will be off-trail. Because of this, there is a certain level of risk involved. Most people should be able to complete the challenge, but some might find it a bit more difficult than others. I strongly encourage you to push your limits, but please stay sensible and don't go and get lost or seriously injured. This cache is not recommended for children under the age of 10. I also recommend you wear strong footwear and long pants or gaiters as you are likely to encounter prickles along the way. But there are ways around the worse parts, as I can attest since I didn't get scratched while hiding the cache.

One final hint: the shortest route is not always the easiest, or the wisest...
