Geocache Description:

#21 cache by harrowang

The Springhurst/Byawatha Landcare Group has created a self-guided Eco Tour of sustainable farming, forestry and land management sites in the Springhurst/ Eldorado/Byawatha areas. We thought it would be interesting to highlight some of the features along this Tour with a cache or five. Many of the roads in this series are un-sealed but quite manageable by a 2WD vehicle – the farmers drive them all the time!

This cache series is not designed to be done in any particular order, so you can start and end where you like.

This last cache in the Eco Tour series is found on Morrison Road, Byawatha, just near the intersection of Luckie Road.

It is a significant roadside habitat which is home to an endangered species of bird - The Grey Crowned Babbler. Their habitat requirements include almost continuous large box tree cover and short, sparse ground cover as they feed on the ground amongst leaf and bark litter and rotting limbs searching for insects. We did not see any of these birds when we placed the cache, but hopefully future geocachers will.

The views of surrounding hills are also a joy to behold from here.

The cache is an ammo can painted to reflect its surroundings. It contains log book, pencil, quite a number of birds or flying creatures and a Geico gecko geocoin. It is hidden in the usual geocaching fashion.

We hope you enjoy discovering these caches just slightly off the beaten track.
