Here's a box dedicated to Negoiu Peak, the second peak in Romania upon altitude. Measuring 2.535 m, Negoiu Peak is outreached only by MOldoveanu Peak (2.544 m), also located in Fagaras mountains. A hike towards Negoiu Peak can be amazing experience, but a good physical condition is required and first enough chance with the weather, as Negoiu Peak is known as meteorological instability pole.
There are several access routes towards Negoiu Peak, the classical ones being the ridge access, from Balea Lake (east) or Scara Peak (west), another access being also from Negoiu Chalet.
The nearest accommodation can be found at Negoiu Chalet (at 3h30-4h), the nearest camping place is Caltun Lake (1h45-2h), these times being valid in normal weather conditions. Beginning with June 2012 the access towards Strunga Dracului (Devil's Pass) is forbidden due to rock falls, the way to the peak being deviated through Strunga Doamnei.
Warning: this box is located in highly alpine isolated area and it presumes intense effort and subsequent mountaineering experience.
Due to the size of the box, please bring your own pen! I know it's hard to carry it up there, but effort shall be rewarded :)
