Geocache Description:

This cache and dash is located on a stretch of the A470 between Newbridge-on-Wye and Builth Wells that is now practically deserted since the new Cwmbach by-pass was opened.

We suspect the catalyst for the building of the new by-pass was this low railway bridge on the ‘Heart of Wales’ train-line which was being hit by artic lorries on what seemed like a weekly basis! This road was one of the main trunk roads through the centre of mid-Wales so the frequent road closure was costing businesses lots of money.

Whist retrieving the cache don’t forget to look up underneath the bridge and see all the scrape marks on the steel structure!

There are lots of parking places near the bridge and whilst this road is now only used by the locals please exercise caution with children and dogs.

Whilst visiting why not attempt our much more interesting multi-cache and dash on the new road nearby - ‘Cwmback By-pass’ ref: GC3QGGQ
