Torehytten - DNT Oslo og omegn
Torehytten is one of the many self serving cabins owned by The non profit organization Den Norske Turistforening (The Norwegian Trekking Assosiation) on Hardangervidda. The cabin is situated at the shore of the lake "Øvre Solvatnet" at 1330 meters above sea level.

Torehytten is a popular starting point for a climb to Hardangerviddas most characteristic summit, Hårteigen (1691 amsl). It is a 4-5 km hike to the summit from the cabin.
Torehytten was built in 1964, two years after Overressaksfører Tore Helm, 37 years old, dissapeared in the area 24th of January 1962. Tores parents dontated money to DNT Oslo for a cabin in the area, and it was named after their son. It is not known what happened to Tore, but a theory is that he fell into a waterfall.
Torehytten is a self service cabin with 10 beds in the main cabin and 12 beds in the reserve cabin. Mattresses are used if all beds are occupied. It's room for one dog in the reserve cabin.
Forreign trekking tourists often outnumber norwegian trekkers in the area. You will most likely meet people from many countries after a stay in the area.
If you bring your own tent, the rule is to camp at least 150 meters from the cabin. This is a rule for all DNT cabins.
The cache is placed at a nice spot, about 200 meters from the cabin. Next to the cache, the river is easily crossed at this spot, even in early summer.
The area is one of Hardangerviddas nicest. The purpose for the cache, is for geocaching trekkers to have a cache to log when crossing hardangervidda. Not everyone will climb Hårteigen and reach the cache there.
