Floresta Laurissilva
A Floresta Laurissilva da ilha da Madeira, classificada como Património Mundial Natural pela UNESCO em 1999, é o que resta de um antigo coberto florestal que permaneceu durante cinco séculos intocável pela acção humana.

É uma floresta de características subtropicais, húmida, cuja origem remonta ao Terciário, época em que chegou a ocupar vastas extensões do Sul da Europa, da bacia do Mediterrâneo e do Norte de África. As últimas glaciações conduziram ao seu desaparecimento no continente europeu, sobrevivendo apenas nos arquipélagos atlânticos dos Açores, da Madeira, das Canárias e de Cabo Verde. A Laurissilva ocupa uma superfície de 15000 hectares, o que representa 20% do total da ilha, nas encostas viradas a Norte, cobrindo de um verde luxuriante as íngremes vertentes e os vales profundos entre os 300 e 1300 metros de altitude. Constitui, actualmente, a mais extensa e a mais bem conservada Laurissilva de todo o mundo. Toda a área integra o Parque Natural da Madeira, que é objecto de protecção especial.
[ENG] It features a subtropical forest, wetland, whose origins date back to Tertiary time has come to occupy large areas of southern Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa. The last glaciation led to its disappearance in Europe, surviving only in the Atlantic archipelagos of Azores, Madeira, the Canary and Cape Verde. The Laurissilva forest covers an area of 15,000 hectares, representing 20% of the island in the north facing slopes, lush green covering the steep slopes and deep valleys between 300 and 1300 meters altitude. It is currently the most extensive and well preserved Laurel forest throughout the world. The whole area is part of the Natural Park of Madeira, which is subject to special protection.
A Laurissilva da Madeira ascendeu à qualidade de Património Mundial Natural da UNESCO em Dezembro de 1999. A floresta Laurissilva apresenta um aspecto uniforme, sempre verde, ao longo de todo o ano, dado que a quase totalidade das árvores e dos arbustos que a compõem, nunca perdem a folha. Entre as árvores especial destaque merecem o Til, o Vinhático, o Loureiro e o Barbusano, todas da família das Lauráceas. A Laurissilva dá abrigo a numerosos endemismos principalmente a nível dos estratos arbustivo e herbáceo. É de realçar também a grande diversidade e desenvolvimento que as comunidades de líquenes e de briófitos, principalmente as epífitas, apresentam.
[ENG] The Madeira Laurissilva Forest has the quality of World Natural Heritage by UNESCO in December 1999. The Laurel forest presents a uniform appearance, evergreen throughout the year, given that almost all trees and shrubs that make up, never lose the sheet. Among the trees Til deserve special mention, the Vinhático, Loureiro and Barbusano, all of the family Lauraceae. The laurel forest gives shelter to numerous endemic primarily on shrub and herbaceous. It also noted the great diversity and development communities of lichens and bryophytes, especially epiphytes present.
Tesouro da Laurissilva
Este tesouro encontra-se escondido algures no Ribeiro Frio, uma das zonas onde a Floresta Laurissilva se mantém em melhor estado de conservação na Ilha da Madeira. Deverá seguir em direcção ao Ribeiro Frio e estacionar na zona turística lá existente. Junto à Loja do Ambiente, que é um centro de educação ambiental da SRA, irá encontrar um trilho o qual deverá percorrer e terá oportunidade de apreciar uma bela amostra daquilo que é a nossa floresta endémica. O tesouro encontra-se perdido algures no meio desta Floresta. No fim deste percurso irá chegar ao Largo do Perado, a cache encontra-se muito próximo deste largo.Aqui deverá subir por onde está indicado no spoiler 2. Suba ao lado direito da pequena porta de Madeira. Após a descoberta do tesouro poderá ainda aproveitar para apreciar os viveiros de trutas existentes junto à estrada.
[ENG] This treasure is hidden somewhere in the Ribeiro Frio, one of the areas where the Laurissilva Forest remains in a better state of preservation. You should head towards Ribeiro Frio and park in the tourist area existent there. Next to the “Loja do Ambiente” which is a centre of environmental education of SRA, you will find a trail where you will have the opportunity to enjoy a nice sample of what our endemic forest is. The treasure is lost somewhere in the middle of this forest.At the end of this trail you will reach Largo do Perado, the cache is very close to this place. Here you should follow the spoiler 2 that indicates the way. Climb on the right side of the small wooden door. After the discovery of the treasure you may still enjoy the existent trout ponds in the area.
