Geocache Description:

Haietlik

Haietlik, meaning 'Lightning Snake', is a mythical water serpent originating from Nootkan mythology said to have been one of the smallest of the dragon species of Terrapinia. Nevertheless, the Haietlik remain powerful creatures and dangerous opponents. They are also sometimes called lightning wyrms because of their unique ability to spit lightning bolts.

These deadly creatures lack the limbs of common dragons of other continents, having only a pair of short but sturdy flippers which facilitate their movement in water and give them a lunging gait upon land. Striped in red and black with a yellow belly, the Haietlik has a thick white mane of feathers upon its head. As these creatures age, their scales gradually darken, with their bellies taking on a brazen sheen, and the feathers a yellow tint that turns to gold late in life.

The great Haietlik dragons are considered to be the favoured allies of the mighty thunderbirds, who use them as living weapons by throwing them from the skies on selected targets, such as the killer whales off the coast, or enemies like the invading giants of the arctic lands. The Haietliks attack their prey using their incredibly sharp heads like spears and shooting lightning bolts at their enemies. They greatly relish the taste of whale meat and only a rare few will trade with humans their strength as defenders to acquire the taste of meat of land animals in lean times.
