This cache is a part of The Detroit Institute of Arts Inside/Out program.


Young Women with a Violin, 1612
Orazio Gentileschi (Italian, 1563 – 1639)
Gift of Mrs. Edsel B. Ford
Dimensions Framed: 54 ½ x 62 ½ in.

Has she forgotten her notes in the middle of a performance? Not likely, since she’s Cecilia, patron saint of musicians for many Christians. The artist Orazio Gentileschi shows her pausing to gaze toward the sky in spiritual reverence. To make this picture, Gentileschi convinced the model, most likely his daughter, to hold up that violin for hours.

This cache can be found after the painting has been removed, but to get the full effect of this hunt, I suggest finding it while the painting is still there. At the final you'll find a medium sized container filled with goodies from the DIA. Use extreme stealth when looking for this cache.

At the posted coordinates you'll find a very nice piece of movable artwork. The artwork is so colorful the women playing the violin can't keep her eyes off it.
