Clean fuel, dirty park Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

BubbyC: This one is once again missing, and the hide spot is very exposed after the annual massive pruning of the surrounding vegetation. It had a good run in a mediocre location, but it's time to let this one go and open up the area to new hides. Thanks to the 322 finders over the years.

Geocache Description:

A brief lesson on an environmentally friendly fuel option, and a cache in a small park that has its own pollution problem.

You might have noticed that Seattle has a large number of diesel cars. To a great extent, this is due to environmentalism -- diesel engines have come a long way from the soot-belching monsters of the 70s and 80s, and are actually a very green option in places where biodiesel is available. Even using a small portion of biodiesel in a conventional diesel mixture can significantly reduce engine pollutants. We've driven a diesel car using biodiesel for several years, and along with environmental impact and the great fuel efficiency of the diesel engine, we get the added benefit of exhaust that smells like popcorn!

Ballard has several sources of biodiesel within a stone's throw of this cache, offering fuel that is domestically sourced from renewable resources and which is essentially carbon neutral. We regularly drive by this park on our way to get fuel, and are always amazed by the juxtaposition of green fuel and the foul state of this little park.

About the park: This unnamed pocket park is officially a part of the street right-of-way. Despite its high-visibility location, it doesn't get much foot traffic other than from residentially challenged individuals, mostly due to its industrial/commercial setting. Thus, it is prone to collecting large quantities of litter, especially of the 16oz aluminum can variety. If you have a minute and a bag, please do some CITO and help keep this greenspace clean!

About the hide: The original cache container is a small Rubbermaid container under some natural camouflage; Update 12/14/13: The container is now a small magnetic bison; with proper foresight, you should be able to park within five feet. Eyes may be watching from nearby RVs/campers even if the park is empty, so please use appropriate stealth when searching, retrieving and replacing the container. Use the hint if you're worried about being observed, or want to get in and out quickly.

Congrats to Super Ninja for a very fast FTF!
