The Summer Olympics begin on July 27, 2012, in London, England. In their honor, we have created a series of caches to highlight the Olympic sporting disciplines. We will release a new cache as the first medal is awarded in each discipline. In each cache, you will see a code for the Closing Ceremony cache. The first 26 cachers who log all 26 sporting, Opening, and Closing Ceremony caches will win a special Olympic prize.
Shooting (Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun) has been part of every Modern Olympics except 1904 and 1928. Women's events were added in 1984. There are a total of 15 Olympic shooting events. Both men and women compete separately in 10m Air Rifle, 50m Rifle 3 Positions (standing, kneeling, prone), 10m Air Pistol, Trap, and Skeet. Other events for men only include 50m Rifle Prone, 50m Pistol, 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, and Double Trap. There is one women only event: the 25m Pistol. Rifle and Pistol events involve stationary targets in ranges, while Shotgun events aim for moving clay targets launched above and in front of them. They will use an estimated 270,000 clay targets during the Games! Each country is allowed to have two athletes for all events, except for Women's Trap and Skeet where only 1 participant is allowed. Teams may consist of 28 athletes (20 men/8 women). There will be 414 athletes competing in this sporting discipline.
Of note, the pistols used in competition are banned from transport into the country. Therefore special permits had to be obtained for those athletes participating in the Shooting events.
The cache you are seeking is a camouflaged peanut butter jar. Please use stealth and return it as hidden.
