Struie Hill is a mountain and is an elevation standing high above the surrounding area with small summit area, steep slopes and local relief of 300m or more.
The Struie road is one of the old drove routes coming down from Sutherland and Caithness. The drovers and their cattle would have rested in the shelter and mild conditions of the low ground before heading up over the Struie, as the route ahead was over high open moorland with little shelter for man or beast. It runs between the two firths, the Dornoch and the Cromarty Firth. The journey between the two firths would have been a long one, although there was a drovers' inn, the Aultnamain Inn, about half way along. (Cache listed at this site also)
The Struie Viewpoint gives a panoramic view of the Dornoch Firth and surrounding area. It s known to the locals as “the Million Dollar View” Standing at the viewpoint, you overlook the inner Dornoch Firth and then to the west the distant Kyle of Sutherland.
