The town of Waynesville, North Carolina was founded in 1810 by a Revolutionary War soldier Col. Robert Love and is still thriving today. It also was the scene of the last skrimish in the eastern theatre of the American Civil war. It is located between the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Moutains about 30 miles SW of Asheville. It is the largest town in Haywood County and the largest town in western NC west of Asheville. In 1995 Waynesville and the town of Hazelwood merged into one town. Waynesville has many traditions, one of my favorites is Folkmoot.
Folkmoot means the meeting of people and that is exactly what this wonderful festival is. Folkmoot is held once a year in the end of July. What it does is it brings 10 music and dance groups to Waynesville to share their culture. It is officially begun with the Parade down Main St. and ends at Lake Junaluska with the Candlelight Closer. It last about a week and there are many preformaces.
Now to the cache. You are looking for a nano, so BYOP, in front of the Municipal Building on Main St. There is plenty of parking (most of the time) along Main St. and should be an easy park, walk, and grab. I was given permission to place this cache by Mayor Gavin A. Brown, the mayor of Waynesville and my grandfather, and the Town Clerk Phyllis McClure. As always Happy Caching!!!!
