Geocache Description:

Nautskardkollen : en skikkelig villmarkscache - a real wildeness cache

[EN] Nautskardfjellet is for me real wilderness, this is what in norwegian is called "snaufjellet", i.e., mountain area where only grasses and very small shrubs grow, but no trees. Fjellet is where nothing grows which is typically above 1400m. Her it is quiet, very quiet, the wind blows and you never know what is next. The mountain is very mighty, its eastfacing wall is very steep and initmidating. Once you leave the marked trail somewhat beyong the Troll waterfalls you are all alone in nature. Mile after Mile. The top of the Nautskard mountain is 1224m high, but this time I didn't want to disturb the emptyness and wilderness that rages here with a cache. I leave that in place. Therefore I placed the case lower down, at 1100m above sealevel, at a place I call Nautskardkollen (not mentioned as such on any map), it is a place with a view almost right above the steep walls towards the east. It has a very nice view towards the Bukollen mountain and towards the south. From here you have all of the mountain for yourself.

NB: not a trip for tourists. You must have some mountain experience and be able to orient yourself in the mountains in bad weather and thick fog. It is at least 3km to the nearest marked trail, there are no cabins in the proximity. From Troll waterfalls it is an easy ascent up - the trip is not particularly difficult - but if you were to go wrong in thick fog towards the east and the steep mountainside, you are in serious trouble!! Take an extra set of batteries for your GPS. The day I placed the cache I went back the same way as I came but from here you can go and go as far as you want in the mountains, wherever your feet take you. It's very beautiful. When I placed the cache the 18th of may 2012 there was still a lot of snow from trollfossen and higher up.
