The West Woods Cemetery is named for the whole southwestern quadrant of the town, the part that was settled last, by a group of families from Columbia County beginning about 1816.
The West Woods Cemetery is often called the Cronk or Crank Cemetery after one of the families represented in it; or sometimes the Carroll Cemetery because it was on the Carroll farm.
The cemetery has been abandoned and unmaintained for over 75 years. The last burial took place about 1907. Recently the town has come in and tried cleaning up the area. When we were placing the cache we saw evidence of a survey some one was taking of the cemetery, probably for geneology purposes.
As this cache is hidden in a cemetery, please only seek it during daylight hours. The cache is not on or near a gravestone. Please respect the area.
