Geocache Description:

Geocaching Licence Challenge Series

This challenge cache belongs to the GIO Geocaching Licence Challenge Series (GLCS). By completing and finding challenge caches in this series in the intended order, you will earn licences, classes and endorsements, with the ultimate goal of earning an International Pro Licence.

The chart above shows the series of GLCS licence challenges and graphically presents the order in which the challenges must be completed in order to earn the various licences, classes and endorsements on offer.

The challenge caches in this series are NOT located at the published coordinates, but are instead located at coordinates that can be quickly calculated based on numbers found in the lids of previous challenge caches in the series.

To complete each challenge in the GIO Geocaching Licence Challenge Series (GLCS), all you need to do is follow the simple procedure below:

1. Complete and find any GLCS licence/class/endorsement challenges that are required pre-requisites for the GLCS challenge you intend to complete.

2. Apply for the next licence or endorsement by logging an "application" note on the challenge page (don't worry, all applications are accepted, so long as you meet the pre-requisites).

3. Find qualifying caches as necessary for the challenge.

4. Log the completion of the challenge along with the list of qualifying cache finds as a note on the challenge page.

5. Calculate the coordinates for the challenge cache you intend to complete based on the numbers found inside previous challenge caches in the series.

6. Find the challenge cache, and then log your find on the challenge page, in order to qualify to receive your new license or endorsement.

7. If this is your first licence, or your licence doesn't have a photo/avatar image on it yet, you can OPTIONALLY send a picture for your licence to geocaching.licence(at)gmail(dot)com. This should be a square JPEG image, 150x150 pixels or larger (but no larger than 600x600 please), with your username as the file name.

8. Your new licence/endorsement will be available by using the following URL, which you can include as an image on your profile:
http://www.funkymunkyzone.com/geo/licence/license.php?name=username
where your geocaching id is inserted in place of username. Allow a few days for the licence/endorsements to be updated.

Full Licence Challenge

By completing and finding this challenge you will be awarded with your own Geocaching Full Licence, as shown below. As with all stages throughout the GIO Geocaching Licence please do not forget to "apply" to begin qualification for this licence, by writing a note on the cache page.

This cache is a plain 1 litre clear plastic sistema container, located near a track on Rangitoto Island at coordinates that can be calculated as below.

Geocaching Licence Challenge Series Rules

This challenge series is intended to be fun, and your Geocaching Licence is entirely useless and will entitle the bearer to nothing but the pride and satisfaction of completing these challenge caches. You do not need a licence to go geocaching, but having one is pretty cool. As with all geocaches, if this cache is not for you, feel free to ignore it – no offense is intended or will be taken.

The following rules apply to all challenge caches in the GIO Geocaching Licence Challenge Series (GLCS). Please also see the fine print for additional important details regarding the enforcement of these challenge rules.

1. You must apply to begin the qualification process for each license, stage and endorsement challenge cache. All you need to do is submit a note to the cache page stating that you are starting the challenge.

2. You must qualify for (and preferably find) all listed pre-requisite licence challenge caches specified for any particular challenge BEFORE you apply to begin the next. Some challenges can be completed at the same time, but otherwise the license process must be completed in stages. Each licence challenge cache includes a list of pre-requisites. Consequently, previous challenge caches in this series cannot be used to contribute to the cache find requirements of any challenge in this series.

3. Cache finds used to qualify for one challenge in this series, cannot be used for another challenge in the series. You can consider the challenge requirements on any one challenge to include all of the qualification required for all previous challenges, meaning you can't use the same find twice, if that makes you feel better about it. Additionally, any cache find used for one challenge requirement cannot be used for another requirement on the same challenge cache.

4. Caches that were disabled or archived at the time of finding cannot be used for this challenge, even if the finder replaces them. If a cache is subsequently archived before completing the challenge, indicate this on your log, but the cache find will still qualify.

5. Caches owned by, adopted by, originally placed by, previously found by, or replaced by, the finder cannot be used for this challenge. The point is to travel and find caches, placed by other people, that you've never found before.

6. There is no time limit to complete any challenge cache in this series, or the series as a whole. Take as short or as long as you like. Additionally, once you have attained a certain licence level, it will never expire.

7. Geocaching Challenges (the replacement for virtual caches, and not to be confused with challenge geocaches), whether they are photos, actions, or whatever, do not qualify as they are not geocaches. Only geocache finds can be used for this challenge series.

Fine Print

You will only receive a licence if you complete the challenges in the spirit intended (in accordance with the rules above and on each challenge page). If it's all about the numbers for you and you can't resist cheating yourself of the challenge then you can, if you wish, complete all the challenges concurrently and ignore the requirement to complete certain challenges before others, but if you do so, you will not receive a licence, nor will you gain any personal satisfaction, and somewhere a fairy will die.

It shouldn't be too hard to hold yourself back and complete the series as intended – there are certainly enough other challenges in New Zealand that have the same type of requirement, to complete a series of challenges in a specified order. If you are the FTF, but did not follow the intended path through these challenges, go ahead and log your FTF, but the FTF proudly listed on each cache page in this series will be reserved for the first to complete and find each licence challenge as intended, respecting the pre-requisites, and in the spirit of the series as a whole.

It should be clear that absolutely no attempt is being made here to redefine the rules and guidelines set by Groundspeak for challenge caches. Any find logged on this challenge cache that abides by the challenge rules set down by Groundspeak will be allowed to remain. The encouragement given to finders to go the extra length to respect the spirit of this challenge series and abide by the pre-requisites and other rules set out on each licence challenge page is that those finders will be able to access a geocaching licence personalised for them that will simply not be made available to those who do not follow the intended process for the series.

By completing the GLCS licence series as specified in the rules (particularly points 1 and 2) you will earn yourself your very own license, which you can access at the following URL:
http://www.funkymunkyzone.com/geo/licence/licence.php?name=username
where your geocaching id is inserted in place of username.

You can include your licence on another web page, or your geocaching profile page, by adding it as an image using the HTML "img" tag, as follows:
<img src=”http://www.funkymunkyzone.com/geo/licence/licence.php?name=username”>
once again where your geocaching id is inserted in place of username.
